
A Confluence of Craft, Culture, and Creativity
on November 22, 2025.
Kumaraguru Institutions, in collaboration with Sakthi Creativity and Culture Initiative, organized Endrendrum Jamakkalam on November 22, 2025, at Sarabhai Kalam Theatre. The confluence brought together nearly 250 Jamakkalam weavers from Bhavani Taluk, Erode District, alongside entrepreneurs, officials from the Textile Sector Skill Council (New Delhi), National Handloom Development Corporation (Hyderabad), designers, patrons of arts and crafts, academic leaders, faculty, and students of Kumaraguru Institutions.
The President of Kumaraguru Institutions, Shri Shankar Vanavarayar emphasized the importance of such initiatives in carrying forward India’s rich craft traditions. Dr. Swapna Mishra, CEO, Textile Sector Skill Council, Delhi, graced the event as Guest of Honor and lauded the institution’s efforts in preserving heritage. Mr. Nagarajan K, Chairman, Ramaraj Cotton, inspired participants with his entrepreneurial journey.
A key highlight was the launch of the book Jamakkalam – People’s Dhurrie of India, authored by Mr. Amar Ramesh, visionary photographer and proprietor of Studio A, Chennai. The incubates of the Atmanirbhar Bharath Centre for Design—Bhavani Jamakkalam weavers—were honored for successfully completing Project Jamakkalam at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Delhi.
The celebrations also featured a weeklong exhibition of Jamakkalams, lifestyle products, and fabric applications at Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan Block. Event coordination was led by Dr. B. Poongodi, Professor, KCT Business School, heading business development initiatives at the Centre for Weavers, along with Udhaya Prakash P (II MBA), Gobika P (IV BTech FT), and students of KCLAS.
