A Workshop for Smarter Banking by Mr. Ashok Bhojan on April 28, 2025.
A workshop was, tailored for 95 students of Finance specialization (Batch 2024-26), on “ALM Made Simple: A Workshop for Smarter Banking” on April 28, 2025. The session was facilitated by Mr. Bhojan, currently serving as Credit Officer – MSME Credit at Canara Bank, is also a Certified Trainer (ISTD), Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB), Certified Credit Professional (IIBF), and has qualified the UGC-NET in Management. With over 15 years of corporate experience in banking. Mr. Ashok Bhojan opened the session by emphasizing that trust is the cornerstone for the long-term sustainability of any organization, especially in the banking industry. He proceeded to simplify complex financial topics with clarity and relevance. The lecture covered core banking concepts such as:
- Asset and Liability Management (ALM) and the risks associated with mismatches in maturity structures.
- The structure and function of Letters of Credit, critical in international trade financing.
- The identification and management of Special Mention Accounts (SMAs), which signal early signs of stress in borrowers.
- An overview of the Basel Norms—Basel I, II, and III—with a focus on capital adequacy, risk management, and regulatory compliance, as outlined by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS).
Mr. Ashok Bhojan also highlighted how banks manage risk and profitability through strategic asset-liability alignment and regulatory supervision.
