Dr. Sarath S., Assistant Professor, ABM
In the second series on பாரெங்கும் பயிர்த்தொழில் (Global Agriculture) published in Hindu Tamil Thisai on January 6, 2025, Dr. Sarath S examined farmers’ income and the wider socio-economic indicators shaping agricultural systems across regions. The series highlighted how these factors significantly influence production decisions, livelihoods, and sustainability outcomes.

Dr. Sarath S was invited as a special guest by All India Radio Kodaikanal FM 100.5 for the VAANAVIL live programme on January 21, 2026, which focused on government support and pension schemes for farmers. The discussion emphasized the importance of flagship initiatives such as PM-KISAN and the PM-Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY) in ensuring income security and social protection for farmers and outlined how farmers can effectively access and benefit from these schemes.
Dr. Sarath S latest article, published in Hindu Tamil Thisai on Jan 14, 2026 titled “ஐவகை நிலங்களும் வேளாண் சுற்றுலாவும்” (Agritourism and the Five Classifications of Tamil Land), explores how the five traditional land classifications—Kurinji (mountains), Mullai (forests/pastoral), Marutham (agricultural plains), Neithal (coastal), and Palai (arid land)—can be reimagined through agritourism. The article positions agritourism not merely as an additional income source, but as a pathway for rural diversification, experiential learning, and sustainable livelihoods. It highlights how integrating agriculture with tourism, culture, and local entrepreneurship can help these landscapes regain economic and social relevance, while also calling for engagement with policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to responsibly scale agritourism in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
