Social Impact
As part of the KCT Business School Social Immersion Project, three solar-powered streetlights were installed in Kallar Pudur to enhance road safety, improve mobility, and promote sustainable energy solutions.
Field visits and community consultations with the Odanthurai Panchayat identified inadequate street lighting as a major concern due to power outages, damaged infrastructure, and elephant movement in the foothill region. The streetlights were strategically installed at the village entrance and key residential areas to maximize community benefit. The initiative is expected to benefit around 50 families, generate 1,570 kWh of clean energy annually, reduce 1.3 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, and save approximately ₹12,500 in annual energy costs. Implemented in collaboration with Acheron Software Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., local stakeholders, and the Panchayat, the project reflects KCT Business School’s commitment to sustainable rural development and community well-being. A community-led maintenance committee has also been proposed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative.
